Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization Basics

The most basic way to make your website search engine friendly is to have great content and make sure the site rates high in accessibility and usability.

The same principles apply:

When you have answered these question you are ready to decide what content should be on the site and how it should be presented.

The best way to make sure that a site will do well in search engine rankings is to keep them in mind when beginning to develop a website. An expert in search engine optimization and submission strategies should be part of the initial design team. That way, potential problems can be identified and dealt with before the site is built and a lot of money and time are put in the coding and the content. Decisions can be made early about tradeoffs between high search engine rankings and using frames, JavaScript and/or dynamic page delivery.

Sites that do well in search engine ranking usually have descriptive page titles and metatags, as well as carefully crafted descriptions that clearly describe the page and site content. They make use of ALT tags for graphics and avoid techniques that keep search engine spiders from indexing a site, such as frames and dynamic page delivery. If those techniques are used, an optimized site will have provided alternative ways to provide content to the spiders.
